Living with HIV in Rural Ontario

The AIDS Committee of Simcoe County started like so many other AIDS service organizations as a volunteer run organization. People infected or affected by HIV came forward to volunteer their time and on October 31, 1995 ACSC became an incorporated not for profit agency.
In these last ten years the organization has grown from one staff person to three plus a number of great volunteers, serving a client base of 68 service users and over 1500 youth a year.
ACSC is funded in part by the Province of Ontario, The Trillium Foundation and Barrie Charity Bingo. These three(3)funders provide 60% of our agency's financial resources and we need to raise 40% through corporate and individual donations to maintain our programs and services. We have made it possible to donate on line,through payroll deductions or by sending a cheque/money order. All donations over $10.00 will receive a tax receipt.
ACSC is a member of The Canadian AIDS Society, The Ontario AIDS Network and The Greater Barrie Chamber of Commerce.
ACSC was nominated as a Positive Action Centre by the Ontario AIDS Network. This nomination comes to us because ACSC gave back to our clients over 80% of fundraising dollars in 2004/2005.
The mission of the ACSC is to help those of us infected and at risk of acquiring HIV/AIDS to improve the quality of our lives. We achieve this through education, advocacy, prevention, health promotion, referrals, and community partnerships.
